With Melbourne Cup 2016 just around the corner, it’s time to start planning and shopping for your unique Melbourne Cup outfit. We have compiled some fashion inspiration for you and we’ll help you to shop the look!
The Dress
First up on your shopping list – the dress! Make sure you adhere to race day etiquette and ensure that you don’t wear anything too short, revealing or midriff baring.
For dress style, there are so many amazing choices to choose from. Structured silhouettes, colour blocking and bright and bold are the usual current go to styles but here are some of our fave looks here at Pica LéLa.
Floral Fascination! Loving all things floral? From floral dresses to floral accessories and jewellery, a day at the races is the perfect time to indulge your floral fascination so go ahead and honour nature and Springtime.

Keep it classic! The perfect time to show your ladylike side. Keep the sequins at home and opt for a demure look for the races. Think high collars, bows, vintage elegance, A-line skirts and wide brimmed hats.

The Shoes
Remember that if you are walking on grass then a wider heal is more appropriate. Shoes need to complement your outfit but also make sure that they are comfortable if you plan on walking around for the day. Leaving the races with your shoes in your hands is not a good look! If your dress has a lot of colour and detail then perhaps opt for a simple shoe. Choose one colour from your dress that will subtly complement your outfit. However, if your dress is simple with 1 or 2 colours then you can choose a shoe with a more complex colour scheme.

The Bag
The bag and shoes don’t necessarily need to match the dress, just complement each other and your outift nicely.

The Headpiece
The pièce de resistance of race day outfits, the headpiece! Your headpiece should make a statement. From feathers to flowers, to fascinators, hats and headbands there are endless choices. However, take into consideration your outfit and choose a style that complements.
The Jewellery
As the focus is usually on your dress and head piece on race day ensure that your accessories are not overpowering. If your outfit is quite busy then opt for subtle studs and a small bracelet to complete your ensemble.
If your outfit is more simple then perhaps some crystal drop earrings to add a little sparkle or pearls for understated elegance.
Still haven’t found your perfect jewellery to match? Then feel free to send us pictures of your race day outfit into customercare@picalela.com and we will help you:-)
